URBANSCREEN, an award-winning group of German artists, takes the art of light projection, video mapping and motion graphics to extraordinary heights in large-scale installations that enhance the audience’s perceptions of their physical and aural environment. The group’s projects have delighted crowds all over the world and include commissions by major art galleries, international festivals and acclaimed opera companies. This summer, they made the internationally famous Sydney Opera House come alive through a series of audiovisual transformations, creating an immediate and poetic architectural expression.
The Spectacle at Rice University represents the group’s first performance in the United States, an occasion befitting a world-class Centennial Celebration. By engaging with the iconic architecture of Rice’s Academic Quadrangle, the Spectacle takes viewers on an artistic journey through Rice’s past, present and future, resulting in a work that is both timeless and spectacular.
